Ordered a room divider for $193.04, my order did not ship and I was not given any updates for two whole weeks. During this time I called and emailed customer service and was put off by the additude from the representatives and the lack of helpfulness. I was informed they would contact me to let me know when my order shipped (which they did not). I then emailed asking that my order be cancelled and I be refunded the total amount (which I was completely within my rights to do, since they hadn't shipped my item yet) and wouldnt you know, by the next day when they responded to my email they said they couldn't issue a refund because the item had shipped. I would describe world market customer service the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They are uncooperative, unconcerned, and unhelpful. World market as a whole is walking a fine line legally as to their shipping practices. I have still not recieved my item. I will not buy from the company again.

Nightmare customer service; avoid ordering furniture for delivery

Ordered a couch online and was told it would take 3-4 weeks to make, then ship. It took over 4 weeks, the couch was sent out directly by manufacturer with only plastic cover protection. Arrived at a local delivery service damaged (fabrics dirty and metal Frame was scratched): delivery service called me regarding the condition of the couch and recommended not to accept the item and returned the item to the manufacturer. Why am I so upset? Evidently, World Market knew that the item was being returned due to damage, never contacted me (I contacted them to advise that I did not wish to wait another 4 weeks + for another couch and to cancel my order), and now they are dragging their feet to issue a refund to my credit card until the item arrives back and the return is "processed" by the manufacturer. Total BS as I never had the item to begin with and they knew it was damaged, not to mention the inconvenience of waiting over month, only to be back looking for a couch again.

I post good reviews much more often than poor ones. But every now and then, I feel it is important on principle to report very, very poor customer service, such as what I received from World Market.

I bought a set of dishes (set of 4 dinner plates/bowls/salad plates) in March for $94.24. After 3-4 months, the paint and glaze on the rim of one plate delaminated, exposing an approximately 2-inch strip of white. The plate was obviously defective; the others were fine. It never occurred to me that World Market would not stand behind their products. After too many emails, and way too much of my time, and being treated very poorly, they simply refused to replace the plate because they have a 60-day return policy. A set of dishes - warranted for only 60 days? That is ridiculous. And why did they string me along for months, if they never intended to replace the defective plate? Taking care of a customer with a legitimate, proven claim isn't worth even $10 to World Market - which is what it would have cost them to replace the plate.

Chronology: I emailed them through their website August 11, asking for a replacement. A series of back-and-forth emails ensued, with me submitting pictures of the damaged plate, providing copies of my transaction, etc. Finally, they said their corporate team would contact me, which never happened. I contacted them again; same thing, no one ever contacted me. I contacted them again, saying if you can't get the corporate team to contact me, please give the name and number of the head of Customer Service. I was shocked (though why should I be? They clearly don't care about customers) when they suggested that I CONTACT the corporate team. I wrote again, saying I would just buy another plate and put a poor review online. I then received an email from "Agent Ed" (corporate team?) who said they had they had already emailed me (not true) and that they wouldn't replace the plate because it was past 60 days.

Thanks for nothing, World Market.

I was shopping in the Ashville , NC store about an hour before closing with two friends. Salesclerks were not friendly especially if you ask about anything.

About 30 minutes before they closed a real hateful woman ask if I need help. I said yes I need to use your bathroom. She told me where it was. When I got to the back of the store the hall was roped off with a sign saying Employees Only so I sat down in a chair to wait.

Eventually she came by and ask me "can I help you!" And not in a nice tone. I said yes I'm waiting fot the Ladies room. She said its being cleaned. So I waited & she came by again.

She ask me again the same question. I said again im waiting for them to finish cleaning the bathroom. She said they are done but it won't be available because we are closing. I sat back there more than 15 min.s when I could have been somewhere else able to go to the bathroom.

I'm 66 year old school teacher & I will never set foot in that store again. I made a purchase but should have tossed my stuff on the counter & walked out.

What did she think I was going to do to their precious bathroom? I still managed to get out the door before closing time after all that!

We went to the Cost Plus World Market on 6th Ave in NYC and saw the Apfel sofa, which we loved. An inattentive and unprofessional salesperson came to "help," but due to her long acrylic nails, I had to place the order myself from a store laptop. Whatever. We were told they don't use their own shipping or delivery companies, so that means they outsource to two different companies to deal with shipping and delivery. The message "Room of Choice" was not transmitted from Cost Plus to the shipping company or the delivery company, so our sofa would be delivered curbside, for us to carry up 3 flights of stairs to our apartment. When the sofa arrived after 2 weeks of dealing with the delivery debacle (and we had taken time from work to meet their delivery window of 12pm - 4pm - the sofa arrived at 5pm), the sofa was damaged, with a gaping gash in the base. Also, the delivery company sent ONE guy to bring a 300+ sofa up 3 flights? Don't rely on Cost Plus for furniture. You won't be happy.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! BEYOND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

I purchased a pillow for $7.64, but it didn't match when I got it so I returned it. Well they charged me $6.50 to return it!! They gave me a refund of only $1.66!!! What a rip off!! This pillow was not available in my local store so I had to order it off the online site. They do not tell you that if you return it with the provided shipping label they charge you $6.50! Had I known that I could have given it to someone as a gift or even let my puppy use it as a pillow. This is NOT a practice that a company with good customer service does! I warn you to NEVER order from this company and encourage your friends to buy elsewhere!

Mislead by cashier when I inquired about the price of an item at checkout, she told me she couldn't see the price and that I could on the receipt once it was printed. She KNEW that once the transaction was complete that I could not return wine even though I never left the check out counter-the price advertised in BOLD on the display was a discount for purchasing 4+ bottles, NOT THE PRICE I WAS CHARGED. Then she had the nerve to let me know if I added two more bottles I could get the discounted price! Your stuff is not that good-I can get what I want elsewhere and on my upcoming trip to India. Very disappointed.

BUYER BEWARE!

I bought a table on cyber Monday. The payment was immediately taken from my bank account. Delivery was a week after the stated delivery date. The table was very damaged and I refused it. Took a few more weeks to get a second delivery. This time the table was missing two legs! The company offered me 25% off to accept the table! What a joke. Their table pieces at in my dining room for about week before they finally picked it up. The delivery man laughed. I guess they are known for this. It has now been almost two months since they took my money. Yesterday I received an email that I would receive the refund n 5 to 7 business days. Why can they take the consumers money immediately but can not refund it immediately. BUYER BEWARE. SHOE ON LINE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY THAT IS REPUTABLE.

Cost Plus World Market - Outdoor Furniture Review

Purchased complete outdoor furniture set. > $1500 after two weeks the cut ends of armchairs starting splitting open, I was able to replace the inferior pieces.

After two months the cut ends of the back of a chair split wide opens, even with proper care and maintenance. Store tried to order a new piece by someone who had no idea what they wete doing and I never received. Called corporate customer service, who told me the piece is unavailable and to call the store where I bought it.

4 months later a piece arrived to replace. Save your money and buy quality elsewhere.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY ONLINE! WARNING

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. First delivery the table had deep scratches and the box was in shreds. Second delivery is missing tow legs and hardware. Second delivery the box looked like it sat outside for months. It was in prices and held together by saran wrap. Inside the styrafoam was in pieces and it now all over the dinging room floor. I called customer service and was told it will be 5 days before they let me know whether they will come and get this second delivery or send me the two legs and hardware. Unbelievable! Prices of a table will now sit in my dining room until who knows when. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I sure withI had checked their reviews before I did business with them.

Yesterday, I visited the World Market at Howe and Alta Arden in Sacramento. In the thirty minutes I spent walking the store I walked past store employees a number of times.

I know there were at least three employees working but no-one acknowledged me being there. I understand if someone is busy with a customer addressing another might be awkward, that wasn't the case. My belief is making a customer welcome and their being in the store is important than that customer will be more apt to make a purchase.

I have always felt an interaction, no matter how simple, puts a shopper in more of a buying mood. Thank you for your time.

DINING ROOM FURNITURE NIGHTMARE

NEVER ORDER FROM THIS STORE.

I ordered a set of 10 side chairs, 2 arm chairs (Java Grayson) and the Grayson Extension Table on 9/8.

I was initially sent the 10 side chairs- one chair was missing a piece and another had a broken piece. I called to notify them of the error and they said they would send me new parts, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM. The 2 arm chairs and the table didn't come. I eventually called to find out that Seko, their delivery service apparently "tried to contact me" to deliver the table.

It was a week late and I never got a call/text/email- so I eventually contacted World Market and they told me to call seko. World Market also NEVER SENT the 2 arm chairs. World Market arranged to "reship" a set of arm chairs. I then called Seko, we arranged a time to have the table delivered.

Once it arrived, I opened the packaging to find that a portion of the table was BROKEN. I called their customer service (yet again) and they offered to deduct %10 off of the table or I could wait to be resent a new table. Unfortunately the portion that was broken was structurally significant so they had to resend a new table. The arm chairs did finally arrive and so did the new table, but I am still waiting on the broken and missing piece from the 2 side chairs.

I will NEVER order from their store AGAIN. WHAT A NIGHTMARE

Update to my review

This is an update to the review I wrote, above. (I couldn't figure out if there was another way to update a review.) After I posted my review, I received a call from the manager of the store (Stephanie, Lakewood CA store) where I had bought the set of plates. She was very apologetic about how World Market corporate customer service had behaved. She sent me a replacement plate, but it was broken during transit. However, she also included a $25 gift card, which I used to go and buy a replacement plate (the very last one they had!). Even if she hadn't included the gift card, I still would have just gone back to the store and bought a replacement plate - it was never the money; it was always about being treated properly. So, thumbs up to the excellent customer service rendered by Stephanie Hazelton, a big thumbs down to World Market Customer Service Department.

Discrimination against senior citizens who are not computer savvy

I tried to take your survey but you wanted me to enter a 12 digit number from my receipt. I would like to know just where that number is because I am sitting with my receipt in front of me and see nothing resembling a 12 digit number except the inventory number of the item purchased.

When I entered your store this past week there was a sign about a discount. When I queried about this, I was told I had to be registered. Three employees later who tried hard and myself, we gave up trying to locate me in the system. Oh, I was there and have been for years but because I did not know my password, it was curtains for me. Really?

Every store I shop in has passwords and cards to track everyone with and I have no idea how anyone can remember all of these passwords but they must be much more intelligent than I am.

So the young computer addicts can get a better price than I can. Since they sleep with their I-phones, they probably count passwords instead of sheep.

I have no cell phone or I-phone, a TV antenna on my roof (no cable), and watch old movies and READ BOOKS in my leisure time. I am writing this on an 11 year old computer windows XL now filled with many virus's and malware. In short, I am low tech!

BUT I am still alive and well and deserve a discount just like everyone else.

I accuse you of being prejudice and discriminatory to the low tech humans left on earth who are old and sick and poor.

Dude, it's not that hard, and it's darn sure not rocket science. Pick a password you can remember, like your dogs name, or the schools name you graduated from and use it...Jeez!

Don't make things harder than they have to be. It's not the worlds fault you refuse to keep up!

The employees of the store must not have been very tech savvy themselves, because there is an extremely easy way to udate the password on the website so that they could have gotten you signed in.

Horrible experience with online order that never showed up and was told 3 diff stories. Finally was told I would have product shipped but could not have shipment fee recovered even though it was their error. The woman on the phone was irritable and rude.
